Abstract
The archaeological field researches carried out within the team of Elizabeth Carter in the central township of Kahramanmaraş province, in 2002 and 2003 showed us that this region was settled uninterruptedly from the Chalcolithic Age (no later than the 5th century B.C.). These archaeological studies, especially the Maraş Provincial Center (ancient Germanica) suggests that the city was settled very intensely between the 1st and 4th centuries and that the city had reached a regional center status. At the beginning of the 11th century, the Germanica, believed to have Byzantine powers, 12th century. and quickly changed the character. Many examples of glazed medieval ceramics have been unearthed. As it is known, at the beginning of the 13th century Kahramanmaras was a province connected to the Anatolian Seljuk state. From time to time this century was bound to the Memluks. There is a lot of data about life in this and the next century, the region of the 14th century. In this declaration, in the province of Kahramanmaras, 10th century. to the 15th century will be compiled and some syntheses from the archaeological and historical information about the Turkification and Islamization of the region will be tried to be reached.
